Privacy Policy

Who we are

TaskNB is an online service that connects people who need something done with trades people across New Brunswick. For anything about your personal information, email us at info@tasknb.ca.

We're governed by PIPEDA — the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, Canada's federal private-sector privacy law.

What we collect

• Your account: name, email address, preferred language, and — if you give them — phone number and city. Your password is stored hashed and we cannot read it.
• If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile picture, as Google passes them to us. We never receive your Google password.
• If you offer services: your bio, profile photo, skills, categories, service areas and rate.
• Your tasks: title, description, category, city, postal code, preferred date, budget and any photos you upload.
• Your activity: quotes, messages, reviews and notifications.
• If you subscribe: your Stripe customer reference and subscription status. We never see your full card number.

What becomes public

This is the most important section in this policy. Read it before you post a task.

While a task is open, its page is public: anyone can read it without an account, and search engines can index it. That page shows the title, description, category, city, budget, preferred date, how many quotes it has received, and your FIRST NAME only.

It does not show your surname, your email address, your postal code, or your account id.

Photos you upload are not displayed on the public page, but the files themselves are stored at a public address: anyone holding a photo's direct link can open it, with no account. Please don't upload photos you wouldn't want shared.

If you offer services, your profile appears in the contractor directory with your name, photo, bio, categories and service areas.

Why we use it

• To run the service: show tasks, carry quotes, deliver messages and notifications.
• To send you account email: confirmation, password reset, and messages you've received. These are necessary to the service and can't be switched off.
• To send job alerts and announcements, unless you've opted out. Every one of those carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
• To take subscription payments and produce records.
• To prevent abuse and respond to reports.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not run targeted advertising. The site carries no analytics tools, no advertising pixels and no third-party trackers.

• Supabase — database, accounts and uploaded files. Hosted in Canada (AWS ca-central-1).
• Stripe — subscription payments. Stripe handles your payment details under its own policy.
• Namecheap Private Email — sending our email.
• Our hosting provider — running the application server.
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
• Authorities, where the law requires it.

Where your information is processed

The database and uploaded files are held in Canada. Some of our providers, Stripe among them, process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Where information sits in another country, it may be accessible to that country's authorities.

Keeping and deleting

You can ask us to delete your account by emailing info@tasknb.ca. We action these by hand, within a reasonable time.

Deleting an account deletes the profile, tasks, quotes, messages, reviews and notifications attached to it.

Two honest caveats. Payment records held by Stripe follow Stripe's retention schedule and our tax obligations. And a task page that was public may stay in a search engine's index or cache for some time after it's deleted — that part is outside our control.

Your rights

You can ask for access to the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to non-essential uses. Email info@tasknb.ca.

If our answer doesn't satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Minimum age

TaskNB is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. The service is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above, and where the change affects your information we'll tell you.
